With the holidays almost over, Korrine and I decided to make a quick trip to Alta Sierra Ski Resort for one last outing before getting back to work. After dropping Claire off with Grandma and Grandpa Denny, we made the short drive up Kern Canyon to Lake Isabella to Wofford Heights to Alta Sierra.
Alta Sierra Ski Resort will always be Shirley Meadows in my mind but the improvements the owners have made over the past few years have made the park into a whole new experience. It is great that there is a place where people from Bakersfield and around Kern County can enjoy some skiing, snowboard or tubing without driving hours.

Last weekend I upgraded my phone from the Blackberry 8310 to the 9700. After two years of wear and tear, the old one was showing its age. So far I am pretty impressed with the 9700 and all the cool new features.
I am writing this post from my phone using the Wordpress application. It looks like I can insert pictures and video, so I will toy around with those a little.

This past weekend in Sacramento, the California Young Republicans held their 2009 Annual Convention and officer elections. I am honored to have been elected Chairman of this statewide organization and I look forward to getting to work on registering voters and the 2010 elections.
Here is the press release from the California Young Republican website, cyr.org.

James Burger called a couple weeks ago to bring to Planet Stanley’s attention that indeed the Bakersfield Californian had reported on the pension issue way back in March of 2003.
Here is a link to a PDF of the 2003 story.
The stories by James Burger and Devin McHenry get to the heart of the pension issue. They show that the city and county were just starting to see the impacts that the 3 at 50 retirement benefit coupled with a stock market decline would have on local budgets. This issue has been facing us for many years and still requires strong local leadership to find solutions to the problem.
I look forward to seeing continuing coverage and participating in the discussion on the pension issue.
